A good cause, save the developers!

One of the reasons I’ve been supporting the movement towards Flash website development is because of how much less I have to worry about my websites running the same on each browser. That however doesn’t mean I can just throw conventional web development methods aside and think everything is fine. IE6 and its predecessors is a serious problem on the web.

So many people are still using that cursed web browser, some statistics say up to 30% still use it! Thats simply unacceptable. I’ve reached a point where I don’t even check anymore whether my sites are running properly on old browsers since it just generates too much stress in wanting to find a solution.

So what’s the deal?

Instead of spending days, weeks.. maybe months fixing your site so it looks right on every browser why not just join a cause that can actually make a difference. SaveTheDevelopers.org is a site created to fight the evil that is the old web browser.

How does it work?

Simply add this script to your source code -

It’s a javascript file that is activated when you visit you open the site with an old browser, there is a live example on their site so take a look, I think they did a great job.

  • <script src= "http://www.savethedevelopers.org/say.no.to.ie.6.js"> </script>

If security is an issue for you then you can always run the javascript locally - download

We might not be able to make IE6 disappear entirely, but we can definitely lower the numbers considerably! This way we (the developers) can rest easier at night.
