The golden days of Blender?
As someone that has a background of using industry level software like Maya and 3DSMax I’ve always had my doubts about Blender. Not only because it’s Opensource but mostly because of its incredibly confusing interface and strange workflow philosophies. I could however be very wrong as I’ve only given Blender a couple of minutes of my attention. I might have been right about Blender a couple of years ago, but have you seen what they’ve been doing lately!?

This project comes after their last successful production “Elephants Dream”. I was surprised to say the least when I saw the first production a couple of months(years?) back.. even though it blew my mind that such a film could be created with opensource software it was far from the standard of something generated in Maya, 3DSmax or XSI. This new trailer “Big Buck Bunny” just has me in a state of awe. It’s time for opensource 3d production people!

I’ve been using blender on and off for a few years. I only wish I had more time and projects that would allow me to explore it more.
Yes, the interface is a bitch to understand, and in every new version they make subtle changes and I find myself looking for buttons, but with a little patience you can get there, and it’s got to a point where you can do just about anything you can do with any other ridiculously expensive software.
Right now I don’t even fantasize about using any of the commercial packages.
